Restoring Democratic Participation

The New World Foundation believes that social justice can only be achieved with a commitment to the democratic participation of an ever broader and more diverse group of people. By funding grassroots organizing and expanded coalitions for power-building, and the development of sophisticated, high-leverage policy and legal strategies, we model, highlight, and bring attention to the ways in which everyday people can lead their communities toward more fair and egalitarian nation.

An intentional shift toward a more democratic vision is needed for positive and sustained social change to occur across the country and over time, we offer creative approaches to movement building that can lead to real experiences of democratic renewal in the United States. Our vision for a more equitable and inclusive democracy pushes us to be better collaborative partners with our non-profit and philanthropic peers.

Grantmaking

Our grantmaking helps build the capacity of participating organizations to develop strategic alliances, build relationships with policy makers and local leadership, engage and build their constituencies, and magnify the impact of their work through effective communications strategies. Our work on the leading edges of change brings together key leaders across social movements to influence policy and practice at local and national levels and helps amplify the voices of communities historically marginalized or excluded from the policymaking process.
