Alston-Bannerman Fellowship Program

Alston/Bannerman FellowsAlston/Bannerman Fellows

The Alston/Bannerman Fellowship Program was founded by the New World Foundation in 1988 to acknowledge and celebrate long-time community activists of color with an award of $25,000 to take sabbaticals of three months or more.

After 20 years, the program is expanding and moving to a new home at the Center for Social Inclusion (CSI), a national policy advocacy organization working to dismantle structural racism at the national level. The CSI, led by Maya Wiley, are committed to making the program a central part of their work and institutional identity.

The program honors those who have devoted their lives to helping their communities organize for racial, social, economic and environmental justice, and enables them to take time out for reflection and renewal.
