For the Record

In the current Economist there are 2 letters to the editor by leading public intellectuals, Daniel Bell and Nathan Glazer (thought by many to have been neo-cons because of their friendships with Irving Kirstol) who make it clear where they have stood for a long time.

It is re-assuring that the neo-con moment never captured some of the social science greats. And also good to know, that in old age, and at this fragile time in the struggle for social justice and democracy, they are prompted to declare themselves publicly.

I have admired both men for many years and am deeply grateful to them once again now.
